What is the ELCA?

Find out about the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and what we believe on our page What is the ELCA?.

Our Pastor

Rev. Frederick L. Lentz was installed as pastor of St. Andrew Lutheran Church on October 18, 2008 after serving as interim for a year.

Pastor Fred enjoys the sense of welcome that is so evident at St. Andrew and is excited to be a part of the ministry here.  He enjoys working with the children and youth of the congregation and has frequently been cited as "St. Andrew's biggest kid."  He journeyed to New Orleans with our youth to experience the 2009 ELCA Youth Gathering and returned as equally charged up as the teenagers, albeit a little tired.  He is looking forward to the 2012 ELCA Youth Gathering with a new group of youth.

Worship development, music, and Biblical study are favorite passions for Pastor Fred, along with spending time with our seniors and youth.

Pastor Fred came to St. Andrew after serving as Interim Pastors at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Edison, NJ; Christ Lutheran Church in Union, NJ; and St. Matthew-Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoboken, NJ. Pastor Fred also served as Pastor of Holy Trinity in Nutley, NJ from 1989 until 2000, as Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Bishop, Texas from 1984-1989, and as vicar of Christ Lutheran Church in Marine-on-St. Croix, Minnesota from 1982-1983.

With a Master in Divinity from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, Pastor Fred received Interim Pastor Training Certification from Gettysburg Theological Seminary in 2005. He has also been a teacher of young children and received certification to teach secondary sciences from Texas A & M University after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Geology, also from Texas A & M University.  He has two children.
